The Purpose for Marriage
This month K and I will make 10 years...can you believe?? In some ways, it seems like it and other times it doesn't. I love that man so much.
But I will be honest, here lately our marriage could use a pick me up. Our daughter is now 7 months old (!!) but we still are adjusting to life with an infant. Which will be a post in itself! But finding time for each other with his job and so many demands and her demands...our marriage definitely could use something.
I am considering this our anniversary month. I want to get into the habit of doing something special for him and for our marriage. What is more special than us growing closer together with God?
So are you ready to take a journey with me? I am about to dive into this devotional daily. Yes, I did say daily. That alone will be a commitment and challenge for me. But I can do this! So let's get started!!
Our first readings will be in Genesis 1:27 and 2 Corinthians 5:20
The most important statement from those readings is "God created man in His own image". Let's chew on that for a moment. We are representatives of God. I don't know about you, but that can be a bit intimidating, right? In everything we do, we are representing our Father in heaven. But instead of being intimidated, we should embrace this as our purpose. According to the devotional, this should change the way we look at our life: our life should reflect worthiness and value.
Now, this also pertains to our husbands. They are made in God's image also. No matter what they have done, they are fearfully and wonderfully made. Now chew on that for a moment. My goal will be to treat K as someone who is valuable and worthy. Not that I don't, but I definitely could do a better job.
Since God created man and woman in his image, our marriages reflect God. In the devotional she states that our marriages mirror God's love story.
Here are some questions to ponder:
How does knowing your marriage has purpose change the way you look at your life and your marriage? I know for me, knowing that my marriage mirrors God and reflects Him makes me a lot more conscious about the way I am going to treat K and love him. It makes me want to work harder at growing closer to him and to God.
What is the one thing you will do differently in your marriage knowing that you are reflecting God's love story? I will make sure God is at the center of our marriage.
Until next time, have a great day!
