Date Nights Do Exist...They Just Change A Little
Kids definitely change things, am I right? Almost five months in this new chapter and I am well on my way to learning how they change your life. One of the biggest adjustments for me was that this tiny little person was relying on me 24/7. I was used to taking care of my husband sure, but a little human being? I will admit... it scared me. I prayed for wisdom and strength. I have to admit I struggled at first getting used to the idea this little person needed me. I prayed to embrace this new adventure. I mentioned in my last post that the newborn stage was the hardest. I'm not kidding. Late night feedings, crying, loss of sleep, getting used to a third person, crying, pooping... Yeah, definitely not for the faint of heart.
Want to know something? I couldn't see our life without her. She has brought a joy to our lives we didn't know was missing. Because we were happy. But our happiness with this little person has been amplified. It really is a miracle.
So yes, babies do change things. Like privacy and dates with your spouse. You have to make sure it's a priority and make it work, right? That is what I have been preaching?
So now that we have a baby how do we do that? Well let me tell you a story of a recent birthday adventure.
To celebrate my birthday, we have a tradition to go to the movies every year. We have done it since we were dating. So the weekend before my birthday, we made plans to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We asked his parents to keep Remy. It was all set. We got our tickets and dropped her off; all was good. The movie was awesome and we had plans to eat dinner at a nice local restaurant here in town. But right at the end of the movie, we got the dreaded call. Remy wasn't acting right and needed our attention. So we put our nice dinner on hold and went to check on our little munchkin. It was nothing serious; she seemed fine, but we felt it would be best to take her home to keep a close eye on her. We loaded her up and on the way home we stopped at Sonic and I got my favorite: a cookie dough and brownie blast with caramel. And it was the perfect birthday. I came to the conclusion I didn't need anything fancy. I had everything I needed in the car with me.
Things happen that you can't help, like a baby needing her mommy and daddy. The important thing is that we made it work. So my advice is to find the little moments together when you are alone... Whether it's watching a T. V. Show after the kids go to bed, or taking advantage of a nap and getting a chance to cuddle. Just make sure to take time for each other. Your marriage came first.
Until next time, God is good All the time!
